All things books

Are you anything like me? Who's your favourite author? Fiction or nonfiction? Do you have a genre you like? Audio book? E-Book? Or physical book? Can you read something multiple times?

So I'm a bit of a bookworm and purposefully don't pick up books because I know what happens when I do, I find it difficult to stop reading something until it's finished.

Take for example that I just finished reading all 5 books of the hunger games books, 62 hours and 45 minutes in about a week.

Personally, I like Ted Dekker as an author, but also drawn to Al Lacy and some of Janette Oke.

Suzanne Collins for her Hunger Games series

Veronica Roth for her Divergent series

I seem to be drawn to dystopian stuff, but like historical fiction writing too

I love my audio books for fiction, physical books for non fiction and there are certain series I can read multiple times.

So your turn now, what do you love about books?

Re: All things books

Thanks for this thread @avant-garde !

I like physical books, but I generally don't have time to read until late in the night and I don't want the light on so I end up reading a book on my ipad or I listen to an audiobook.

I look forward to seeing people's good reads!

Re: All things books

@tyme @avant-garde I like to read. I haven't picked up a book in months though...my brain is tired and frazzled and reading seems too much to focus on, at the moment.

I do listen to audio books though while I drive.

I read mostly fantasy, with some self- development thrown in there.

My faves are...

Sarah J Maas - ACOTAR series (currently listening my way through the dramatic audio, but I've also read them all)

Rebecca Yarros - The Fourth Wing series

Adrienne Young - The World of the Narrows series

Dianna Galbadon - The Outlander series

Alexandria Warwick - The North Wind series

Callie Hart - Quicksilver

Mel Robbins - The Let Them Theory

Jay Shetty - Think Like a Monk

Re: All things books

Oooooo I love this @avant-garde ! I'm also drawn to dystopian stories. I don't have a particular author I'm interested in, but any book that has a good / balanced amount of anticipation definitely keeps me reading. I do go in phases though when it comes to reading. Sometimes I'll read CONSTANTLY and not be able to do much else. Other times I won't read anything for months 🙃

I do prefer a physical book, but I have an e-reader that I've been using more recently. It's easier to read on my e-reader than a physical book when I'm getting my nails done haha

I love the escape and visceral feelings that fiction books bring me, and I always adore acquiring new knowledge through non-fiction books. Another thing I REALLY like about books in particular is how they can be something else for me to do that isn't scrolling social media. Don't get me wrong, I love it and still do it, but sometimes I need a break from it, and books give me that stimulation.

Are you someone that can read the same book / series multiple times? (I am haha)

I remember @Abz creating THIS thread about a month ago, where she shared a lot of self-help / healing books.

@MissinTooth

I do enjoy a good fantasy book, will definitely be checking out your suggestions!

@0ddsidian

I find I feel a sort of kindredness with dystopian books, because my upbringing doesn't fit with anything particularly normal.

Yes I am one to read books multiple times.

Re: All things books

@avant-garde That's actually a really interesting point; about how dystopian books (and the genre generally) are a reflection or representation of lives that are outside the "norm". It seems obvious now that you've said it haha

I think I like re-reading books / series multiple times because it's comforting knowing what will happen, but still enjoying getting lost in that world 😊🙃

Re: All things books

@tyme @avant-garde @0ddsidian @MissinTooth

I enjoy variety of different genre, a lot supposedly for pre mid teens.

I’m currently, usually few pages only at appointments, reading Laura Inglis Wilder, Little House on the Prairie Series.

on my bookcase I’ve also got

Wheel of Time - fantasy about person coming to save the world

Keys of the Kingdom Series by Garth Nix

Artemis Fowl Series by Eion Coller

Re: All things books

@Patches59

Oh! Garth Nix!

Going to see if there's audio books in my e-library to help me with school holidays.
